L’Italia è una nazione speciale, il solo anello in grado di unire due sfere geopolitiche: Europa e Mediterraneo.
Un'Italia
L’Italia si è unificata tra il 1860 e il 1870, quando il Piemonte (Nord Italia) ha conquistato il Regno delle Due Sicilie (Sud) e lo Stato Pontificio (Centro).
Il Piemonte era un regno del Nord, legato alla Francia. La conquista del Centro-Sud da parte del Nord ha creato l’equivoco storico che affligge l’Italia unita: l’equivoco che l’Italia sia una nazione votata all’Europa invece che al Mediterraneo.
Un Equivoco
Dopo l’unità, i Piemontesi hanno tirato l’Italia verso Nord, verso la loro visione strategica di regno minore centrato sull’Europa.
L’Italia unita è quindi nata con la visione strategica di una piccola nazione, subalterna alle grandi nazioni europee.
L’Italia non ha preso coscienza del proprio ruolo di potenza unica, in grado e con il dovere di fare da ponte tra due sfere geopolitiche: l’Europa e il Mediterraneo.
Invece di forzare l’Italia ad adottare la visione strategica del Piemonte, il Piemonte e il Nord Italia sarebbero dovuti diventare la Terza Sicilia, parte di una nuova visione per una nuova nazione.
Questo equivoco nella visione strategica affligge l’Italia da 150 anni.
Lo stesso equivoco ha afflitto l’Italia in altre fasi della sua storia.
L’Italia prospera quando si apre verso il Mediterraneo, rovina quando si chiude verso l’Europa.
Aprirsi al Mediterraneo ha portato l’Impero Romano, il Rinascimento, la prima fase di crescita sotto il Fascismo, il Boom economico.
Chiudersi verso l’Europa ha portato il Medioevo, le dominazioni e le guerre straniere, la seconda fase rovinosa del Fascismo, la stagnazione post-Euro.
Tre Sicilie
L’Italia non è una nazione europea pura. Non è continentale, ma marinara. È l’unione di Tre Sicilie:
- La prima: La Sicilia isola al centro del Mediterraneo. Crocevia di culture e traffici. Il simbolo della centralità italiana nel Mediterraneo.
- La seconda: Il Centro-Sud. La Banchina dell’Europa verso il Sud del mondo e il Medio Oriente.
- La terza: Il Nord. La giuntura che salda l’Italia al continente. La porta che apre l’Europa al Mediterraneo e viceversa.
Obiettivo Di Questo Progetto
Questo progetto intende correggere l’equivoco storico dell’Italia come nazione europea e promuovere la percezione corretta dell’Italia come nazione mediterranea.

Manifesto: One Italy, A Misconception, Three Sicilies
Italy is not a purely European nation.
Italy is a unique nation, the only link capable of uniting two geopolitical spheres: Europe and the Mediterranean.
One Italy
Italy was unified between 1860 and 1870, when Piedmont (Northern Italy) conquered the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies (the South) and the Papal States (the Center).
Piedmont was a northern kingdom, allied with France. The conquest of the Center and South by the North created the historical misconception that plagues unified Italy: the belief that Italy is a European nation rather than a Mediterranean one.
A Misconception
After unification, the Piedmontese pulled Italy northward, toward their strategic vision – a product of a minor kingdom centered on Europe.
The unified Italy was thus born with the strategic vision of a small nation, subordinate to the great European powers.
Italy failed to recognize its role as a unique power, capable of and duty-bound to serve as a bridge between two geopolitical spheres: Europe and the Mediterranean.
Instead of forcing Italy to adopt Piedmont’s strategic vision, Piedmont and Northern Italy should have become the “Third Sicily,” part of a new vision for the new nation.
This misconception regarding its strategic vision has plagued Italy for 150 years.
The same misconception has plagued Italy at other points in its history.
Italy prospers when it opens up to the Mediterranean; it falls into ruin when it locks itself up in Europe.
Opening up to the Mediterranean brought about the Roman Empire, the Renaissance, the first phase of growth under Fascism, and the economic boom.
Locking up in Europe brought the Middle Ages, foreign domination and wars, the ruinous second phase of Fascism, and post-Euro stagnation.
Three Sicilies
Italy is not a purely European nation. It is not continental, but maritime.
It is the union of the Three Sicilies:
- The first: The island of Sicily at the center of the Mediterranean. A crossroads of cultures and trade. The symbol of Italy’s centrality in the Mediterranean.
- The second: Central and Southern Italy. Europe’s pier to the Global South and the Middle East.
- The third: Northern Italy. The link that binds Italy to the continent. The gateway that opens Europe to the Mediterranean and vice versa.
Goal of This Project
This project aims to correct the historical misconception of Italy as a European nation and promote the correct perception of Italy as a Mediterranean nation.
